What little I could discover about the Campbell connection with this necklace raises some more questions.
I cannot find any information on the connection between the Countess of Aldborough and Lady Campbell of Barcaldine.
What Sotheby's site does not mention is that the necklace was auctioned by Christie's 1945. At the time the person sending it to auction was Miss Erica Rose Campbell of Barcaldine. The first auction did not proceed as the jewel was said to be an heirloom and was withdrawn from sale.
Once the legalities were sorted out, the jewel was auctioned, fetching 800 pounds. Various reports also stated that Emma Hamilton had worn it on her wedding day
It will be very interesting to see what price it eventually fetches in this current auction.
