I believe Princess Marina followed the tradition of leaving the majority of her jewels to her sons for them to give to their wives to use. A daughter would supposed to be on the receiving side of this tradition in her marriage.
I think she also disapproved of Angus Ogilvy and had hoped for a grander match than the second son of an Earl so Alexandra got left even higher and drier on the jewel front especially as Marina died so quickly after the marriage and Marina hadn't got to know Angus very well.
There is another very interesting little aside though regarding the Duke of Kent's jewells. I believe Angus Ogilvy was a very wealthy man by the mid to late seventies. Wealth is a strange beast in that it doesn't often mean you have the liquidity to buy things but bearing in mind how active a royal Alexandra was for them to have bought a few of the Kent pieces that we now know to have been quietly sold is a conundrum.
Could it have belonged to Princess Marina and then beeing sold with some of her other Jewels after her death?
Right after posting that last bit, I looked again and found these image of the necklace being worn at an event in 1965, with what looks like her Pearl Corsage Brooch !
The caption is:
