In the list of wedding gifts not seen or worn, Frank has in an item --
"The City Council of Brisbane, Queensland. An opal and gold pendant in a gold chain."
While we have not seen photos of QEII wearing this gift, there are some poor quality photos of it.
Franck listed this as from the Brisbane City Council. Technically, all that the Brisbane City Council did was to co-ordinate a state wide subscription fund. After the initial suggestion was made, the Deputy Mayor (Alderman Moon) wrote to other councils across Queensland advising them that Brisbane City Council would set up a fund and co-ordinate all the details. So, technically this was a gift from numerous Queenslanders. Included with this gift was one for Prince Philip: a maple wood (Queensland maple, not Canadian) cigar box.
When the gift was presented the Australians involved in that also present QEII with a set of opal earrings from the Queensland branch of the St George League.
The maker of the necklace, which contained 8 opals was E. H. Staines a prominent Brisbane jeweller.
So far I have never found an image of the earrings.
