I know Afghanistan’s current state is on everyone’s minds; such sad news.
Afghanistan was once a Monarchy so, I thought we could talk about Afghan royalty and their jewels.

Here is Queen Sarwar Sultan, Consort of Amir Habibullah and mother of King Amanullah. She was apparently Afghanistan’s most powerful Queen. She is literally draped in diamonds and emeralds. Look at that necklace and that star brooch. Also, is that a diamond ornament on her hair?

Queen Soraya seemed to favor that necklace for day time events as well.

Afghanistan’s last Queen was Queen Humaira Begum, wife of King Mohammed Zahir, a very elegant woman that believed less was more. She didn’t like big flashy things unlike her predecessors, and as far as I know the Queen was never pictured wearing a tiara. Even on State Visits, she wouldn’t take with her big things, just a pair of earrings and a small necklace, like she did for the Japanese State Visit she and her husband made in 1969

The King and Queen also paid a state visit to Queen Elizabeth II in 1971, but I haven’t been able to find pictures of the Queen during the event, so far I’ve found this of the King with Queen Elizabeth II
