I wish that the Royal Collection would release more information because, unless they do so, I suspect we have little chance of identifying who gave this set to Queen Mary.
I also suspect that, because this set is in the Royal Collection and not held as a personal jewel by The Queen, that it probably has never been worn by Queen Mary or any other Queen. But who knows?
The suite complements the large collection of cameos in the Royal Collection.
I find it strange that there is no additional information about the maker. Is it Italian? Is it English? Or from some other country?
Perhaps in time we will gain more information.
The date (1932) when Queen Mary "acquired" it raises questions in my mind. If Queen Mary purchased this herself, she may have been able to obtain a bargain, 1932 being in the middle of the great depression. The same may have applied to any potential presenter of the suite as a gift. I have always wondered if the amount of jewellery which Queen Mary acquired during this period may have been her way of helping the jewellery trade survive.
