I suspect that, despite wearing a great many jewels at once, Queen Mary may have found the design of the necklace, as a necklace, clashed with her sense of what jewels suited her best. Apart from when she wore the Cambridge sapphires, Queen Mary, after she became Queen, kept to relatively simple clean lines with regard to necklaces.
