Upon the death of his father, appointments to Edward VII's family order lapsed.
Established in time for the 1911 Coronation, the Royal Family Order of George V was suspended from a plain light blue watered ribbon, slightly wider than that of his father's order.
the ribbon and format of the badge was based on the smallest version of George IV's order.
The order was made by Garrard's in four sizes, and was distributed more widely than his father's.
