Maria Olivia,
answers part two!
Yes next is Royal Family Order of Queen Eizabeth II. Finalizing the image research now.
No. Princess Margaret never received the Garter. She received the GCVO in 1953 Coronation Honours list, then the Royal Victorian Chain as a 60th birthday present. (Note that the cross is diamond encrusted.)
Princess Margaret initially wore it on the bow of the ladies form, but soon took to wearing the men's chain. (Most probably as she already had four orders worn on shoulder bows!!! The CI and three royal family orders. Would need a lot of reinforcing on the left side of those dresses!)
Yes you are correct about the three current royal ladies with the Garter. Not sure if Queen Camilla will wear Garter insignia to the coronation. Princesses Anne and Alexandra will probably wear sash, star and Garter itself above the elbow.
RE: current GCVOs, yes, those three you mention, PoW, DoG, DoK, but add in the Duchess of Edinburgh. (I wonder if the Duchess of Kent will attend the coronation? She is retired from royal life, and is 90. So expect we will see only the PoW, DoE and DoG wearing the GCVO sashes and stars.)
Re: Princess Michael of Kent. Yes, as she and husband were not working royals she has not received the Royal family order or any level of the Royal Victorian order, just jubilee medals which are spread further than working family. Prince Michael received the KCVO, and was upgraded to the GCVO, but unlike his brother and sister has not received the Garter.
After Prince Phillip's death in 2021 none of the royals currently hold the GBE. He was made Grandmaster in 1953 this is the Grandmaster's badge.
After the King's ascension to the throne there are now two Grandmaster vacancies - in the Orders of the Bath and the British Empire. (Princess Anne is GM of the RVO, Duke of Kent is GM of the Order of St Michael and St George, and Duke of Gloucester is GM of the Order of St John. Garter, Thistle, Merit and Companions of Honour do not have Grandmasters. Indeed Merit and CofH do not have sovereign's badge.)
I have put together a little list of which royals might be on the 2023 Coronation honours list, and what they receive. I suspect that the Prince of Wales may be made Grandmaster of the Order of The Bath in succession to his father. Maybe Queen Camilla will be GM of the OBE succeedng Prince Phillip and Queen Mary, or maybe another royal? New Duke of Edinburgh perhaps?
I wonder if we will see a few Royal Victorian Chains in the list? Say for the Princess Royal, and Dukes of Kent and Gloucester? Also wondering about the LT/KT for Queen Camilla and the new Duke of Edinburgh.
Hope that all helps, and get's you thinking!
Cheers,
DavoST
Thank you so much DavoSt for your threads and Pisctures.
I noticed that only Queen Mary and Queen Elisabeth (the Queen Mother) wore the Sash of the Garter.
The other Ladies wore the Sash Royal Victorian Order.
I suppose your next thread will be the family Orders for Queen Elisabeth II. ? Princess Margaret never received the Garter Sash.
For King Charles III only 3 ladies have the Sash of the Garter : Queen Camilla , Princess Anne and Princess Alexandra.
The Princess of Wales , the Duchess of Kent , the Duchess of Gloucester have the Royal Victoria order. Princess Michael reveiced nothing !
Am I correct ?
Thank you DavoST. So enjoyable!
