I truly hope they can maintain their status and wealth and that they do not follow similar fates of such families who had to sell up or lose their great estate through the UK's dreaded death taxes structure.
The British aristocracy are different and grander than all the rest if they are compared.

Dave.

The sad news that the Duchess died today very prematurely; she was just 68.

I have seen Beth’s and the Royal Watcher’s excellent summaries on the incredible Buccleuch collection (surely the best collection of jewels of any British noble family still in existence?) but I can’t recall ever seeing any photos of the recently deceased Duchess wearing any of the family jewels.
Does anyone know of any?
Maybe it just wasn’t her style, although she certainly had an impressive noble ancestry of her own.
The photographs of the Buccleuch jewels tend to focus on her mother-in-law and grand mother-in-law, who was a contemporary of Queen Elizabeth, consort of George VI.
I had the chance last year to see the Buccleuch belt tiara at the Sotheby’s exhibition for the Platinum Jubilee for Queen Elizabeth II. I wouldn’t describe it as beautiful, it seemed more cumbersome but it was certainly impressive and I cannot imagine it was easy to wear.
