Sold in 1971, the description in the catalogue describes it as belonging to Tsar Alexander II which doesn't really address what happened to it after his death, had it remained in the main line surely it would have referenced Nicholas II? So presumably it passed to one of Tsar Alexander's younger children, including his illegitimate branch.
Any ideas?
