What a delightful brooch! Just like you I do love it when we get additional information on pieces that are being brought out of the vaults. Hopefully we will get more like this in the future!

Was this information actually posted on the Royal Family's website? Sadly I find the website very difficult to navigate. It's a bit like a labyrinth. I have tried to find it, but I had to go back to googling. And when searching around on the net I only get a lot of newspapers and sites citing information received from Buckingham Palace, but no link or quote.

The reason for my interest in the actual wording of the information from BP is that I noticed some internet sleuth highlighting some facts:

1977 was the year of the late Queen's Silver Jubilee. She did travel around the UK throughout the year that year. And, although she visited Birmingham and the surrounding area several times in 1977, she apparently did not visit in February when the 1977 Spring Fair was held. Her mother, on the other hand, appears to have visited the Fair and it is very likely then that it was she who received the gift and not Queen Elizabeth II. So; Queen Elizabeth yes, but Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and not Queen Elizabeth II.

The close-up of Queen Camilla is also very interesting as it looks like she has worn other brooches with this outfit... you can sort of see some of the threads have been forced out of shape to create small holes in the fabric just above where the butterfly brooch is now placed. I just thought that was an interesting detail too.

And just to add some more information on Queen Elizabeth II and the Spring Fair: in February 1976 she visited the fair as she opening the National Exhibition Centre where the fair was held. For the occasion she wore the Cambridge Pearl Pendant brooch. And here is a video:
