Duchess of Gloucester's pink stone drop - from Queen Mary?? Archived Message

On Day two of Ascot 2018 the Duchess of Gloucester wore a pink stone pear shaped drop as a pendant on her pearl necklace.

I wonder if the stone is a pink topaz and an inheritance from Queen Mary?

Queen Mary had such a pendant.

Previously it was thought that the pendant was sold with a brooch Queen Mary gave to Princess Margaret.

I don't think that the pendant in the Princess Margaret brooch is a good match to the one worn by Queen Mary. Apart from a difference in shape, I don't think that Queen Mary's has any metal work at the sides or back of the pendant stone. More importantly, the Princess Margaret brooch pendant does not have a diamond encrusted cap at the top of the stone.

The pendant to Queen Mary's brooch does have a diamond set cap, and it matches in style that on the drop worn by the Duchess of Gloucester.

What do others think? There may be no connection between the pendant worn by Queen Mary and the Duchess' pendant but I think it is a distinct possibility. I wish we had some better images of Queen Mary's stone.
