    For a number of reasons I very much doubt if this ruby was ever given to Queen Victoria. She was not adverse to wearing the Koh-i-noor or the Timur ruby or any of the other jewels which were given to her by various eastern rulers or as spoils of war as the Koh-i-noor or Timur ruby were.

    If Queen Victoria wore a ruby such as the Thibaw or Nga Mauk ruby someone would have written about it somewhere. Yet, there don't seem to be any such references.

    If such a ruby was given to Princess Louise that too would elicit comments. I suspect that Princess Louise, like the Empress Frederich, might have been given a ruby from the jewels the Queen of Oude gave to Queen Victoria in 1856 or the King of Thailand gave to her in 1857.

    Like all good mysteries the story of the Nga Mauk makes for gripping reading.
