Queen Alexandra's Birmingham sapphire necklace Posted by Beth on October 4, 2018, 10:01 am, in reply to "QA of UK sapphire necklace " This necklace was presented to Queen Alexandra when she and Edward VII visited Birmingham in July 1909. It was made by trainee jewellers at the Birmingham Municipal School of Art. As well as sapphires the necklace featured emeralds, pearls, diamonds and pink topazes among the intricate gold work. It was designed by Mr Gaskin, the Headmaster of the training school, and his wife. In August 2017 I did a post, based on original research, on the RJWMB. http://members2.boardhost.com/royal-jewels/msg/1502054450.html As the image is identical to the one I posted I presume that someone with a Pinterest account has appropriated my work. I haven't seen any descriptions suggesting it was worn by anyone else but it may have been after Queen Alexandra's death.
