What a marvelous photo of this brooch Dave. Thank you!
This elaborate brooch was part of the wedding gifts Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother received from her husband.
Unlike the necklace, QEQM never changed the brooch and it became a life long favourite.
Hugh Roberts in The Queen's Diamonds calls it the Duchess of Teck flower brooch and suggests that the brooch may have been one which Princess Mary, Duchess of Gloucester, left to Princess Mary Adelaide. I can understand Roberts' lack of certainty as to whether it originally belonged to Princess Mary as her will describes a "square" brooch with pendants.
According to Roberts, after Princess Mary Adelaide's death, the brooch was given to Prince Adolphus, her eldest son, but by 1923 it was in Queen Mary's possession.
QEQM wore it for day time events, as well as grand evening functions.
This brooch was made about mid 1800s from diamonds, silver & gold.
It belonged to Princess Mary Adelaide, Duchess of Teck (Queen Mary`s mother)
It was left to Queen Mary`s brother in 1897 but Queen Mary had come into possession of it by 1923, when she gave it to her son, the Duke of York as a gift for his bride Lady Elizabeth Bowes Lyon, became the Duchess of York.
It was one of the favorite brooch of the Queen Mother`s for the rest of her life.

What splendid photos Maridje. The close ups really does this brooch justice, and it really looks awesome. And thanks to the others for the information and pictures. The brooch happens not to be as unfamiliar as I had originally thought.
Regards,
Dave.
