A Bonaparte diamond stolen in Paris Posted by Thomas on April 6, 2019, 2:21 am The French generalist newspaper Le Parisien reports that a ring set with a 40 carats diamond, valued at more than a million euros, was stolen on April 1st from “the wife” of Prince Jean Christophe Napoléon, head of the Imperial House. Prince Jean Christophe isn’t yet married, but I assume the article refers to his fiancée, Countess Olympia von Arco-Zinneberg. The ring was in a bag, along with identity documents, a computer and bank cards. The bag was stolen from the Prince’s car, which was parked in the sixth arrondissement of Paris, rue Dauphine. According to Le Parisien, the diamond came from a dismantled tiara that belonged to Empress Eugénie. The case is now in the hands of the Police Judiciaire. I noticed that the journalists were quick to say the article was not an April Fools Day joke. Thank you Thomas for drawing out attention to this diamond and its theft. A 40 carat diamond in a ring would definitely be eye catching!

The Prince has been very lucky, since the market for stolen jewels often acts faster than the police. Kim Kardashian was not as lucky a few months ago when her jewels were stolen in Paris. I truly hope that the press will publish more information. Perhaps Vincent Meylan plans on doing an article on the Prince’s engagement, and will be able to see the stone and uncover more about its origin. I wish I had access to the Prince myself!

The ring is in fact worth several million euros.

It is much less -It never belonged to empress Eugénie, but it comes from a piece of jewelry which belongs to the imperial family. -The price is absolutely not one million euros. Not my place to comment on their work. I can only answer for me. I have always found that the best idea in that kind of situation is to read the information you find and then try to find more. In that case, the only solution was just to ask. If you think about it, a 40 carats cushion diamond is just enormous. Begum Aga Khan III had a 37 emerald cut diamond and it was huge. The information about the car not beeing locked has been copied everywhere and it is just not true. The Eugénie provenance did not make sense either. Empress Eugenie’s jewels are well known and a diamond of 40 carats would have left a track in history. It is not the case and the provenance of that diamond is much more simple. Best . Vincent
