Queen Alexandra. Kokoshnik tiara as necklace
Posted by Beth on July 22, 2019, 7:17 pm
I have been meaning for ages to post this cutting I have which says that Queen Alexandra wore the kokoshnik tiara (given to her by the Ladies of Society for her silver wedding anniversary) as a necklace.
During this era it was commonplace for the press to refer to the gift as the "Ladies' tiara" or the "Ladies' diamonds" or a similar phrase. After receiving it Queen Alexandra wore it frequently.
I wish we had a photo of Queen Alexandra on this occasion, not only to see how the tiara looked as a necklace but also to see the bee brooch given to her by Blackburn. The press reported her wearing that often; yet, I have never identified it in photos. Has anyone?
An interesting prospect, it would be beautiful either way but maybe more grander looking as a necklace, the stones are very pure and shiny and may look better against the skin.
Regards,
Dave.
