Jewels of Queen Fabiola's family Posted by Beth on August 1, 2019, 2:22 pm I recently stumbled upon a report in the UK press of the wedding of Queen Fabiola's sister in 1956. With what limited research I have done, I realised that the tiara worn by the bride, Maria, is a family piece. Does anyone know if the tiara is still owned by the family? Queen Fabiola's mother wearing the tiara. What other family jewels are there? The 1956 report showed the bride's mother wearing a gemstone necklace. Does anyone know anything about it? I presume that the bracelet worn by Queen Fabiola was also a family jewel.

Fabiola's Mother and Princess Lilian had the same dress color at the religious wedding. I never saw a picture of her at the 2 pre Weddings events. Regarding the necklace worn by Queen Fabiola's mother I believe she also wore the same necklace when her daughter wed the King of Belgians. Im not a 100% sure but maybe Queen Fabiola is wearing the same necklace here: The Marquessa was also pictured in what looks like an art deco necklace, clip brooches and impressive diamond earrings. Also a beautiful four strand pearl necklace and floral brooch. Lastly here is a better quality photo of the Marquessa posted by Beth above and shows the tiara in great detail. I wish there was a picture of the mother and daughter duo wearing their Spanish tiaras together!!!!

I find it interesting to discover new jewels. (I know I am showing my ignorance as I realise that others may know all about these jewels!) I wonder if the tiara, like the one presented to Queen Fabiola, can take gemstones of different colours in the centre of the motifs? It is obvious in the last photo posted by OmerH that there are dark coloured stones. (It is a much better photo thank you OmerH) Similarly, in the photos in the link Stefan provided. If the information attached to the photo below (from Printerest) is correct, the tiara can also be worn in a pearl version. Link to site which says the bride is a great niece of Queen Fabiola https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/458733912014955120/ The photo of Queen Fabiola wearing what looks like a ruby necklace is intriguing. I wish we could see more of the necklace, but it does look as if it could be the Marquessa's necklace. If so, it raises the question of whether the Queen borrowed the necklace or if her mother left it to her.

Re: Jewels of Queen Fabiola's family Posted by OmerH on August 2, 2019, 11:17 pm, in reply to "Re: Jewels of Queen Fabiola's family" It is highly likely that the gemstones in the tiara were removable however I dont think the bride in the pinterest link is wearing the tiara worn by Queen Fabiolas mother. If you look closely at the two tiaras the one worn by Fabiola's mother has two semi circular elements between the strawberry leaf and the pearl trefoil elements while on the bride its just one curve that goes from the strawberry leaf to the trefoil. (Apologies in advance for such a rudimentary explanation) Also we have to remember the strawberry leaf is a rather common element in Spanish aristrocratic jewels so perfectly possible to have similar pieces among different branches of same family.
