Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Cartier Palm leaf (or Paisley) brooch
Posted by Beth on December 8, 2019, 8:13 am
According to Hugh Roberts in The Queen's Diamonds his information about QEQM's Cartier Palm leaf brooch comes from a Cartier record dated 1 September 1938. See Roberts page 228 footnote 2.
The brooch became one of QEQM's favourite items of jewellery worn throughout her life.
I wonder if the first time HM was photographed wearing the jewel in public might have been to a visit she paid on 14 October 1938 to a Dundee workshop for ex-servicemen?
For a while now I have thought that new jewels often appear initially either on overseas visits or at relatively low key events in the UK.
Is that my imagination?
Scotsman 15 October 1938.

Funny, I had thought this brooch was a later addition to the late QEQM's collection but now that you Beth are highlighting its earlier origin I am thinking maybe it was a gift from her husband the King.
Regards,
Dave.
