Is this Princess Alice Countess of Athlone? Posted by Beth on May 5, 2020, 6:57 am I saw the photo below when looking for something else. Although the caption says the lady is Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, at a charity ball in London in June 1931, I am not sure this lady is her. What do others think? If it is Princess Alice, what tiara is she wearing? Closer view

I am still undecided as to whether the lady in the image is Princess Alice, although I am coming to accept that it might be her after seeing more images of her during the 1930s. One of the things which I realise now is that most photos I have seen of Princess Alice show her face in repose. She photographed differently when her face was animated.

JR76's images of the wedding gala of Princess Sybilla are intriguing. I had never seen them before. I wonder if Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, might have been wearing this tiara? I think she began wearing this tiara in the early 1920s. What do others think? 1931 1939

Tiara worn at Swedish wedding" You're probably right. The other tiara looks a bit to simple to wear to the wedding of your niece to a future king. Maybe the other piece is more of a headpiece than a tiara? They were quite popular at the time. Look at for instance the headpiece worn by Louise Mountbatten at her wedding.
