Candida, Marchioness of Tweeddale

Attended the legendary Devonshire House ball of 1897 as the Empress Josephine.
She is wearing a tiara very similar in style I think to that which Queen Marie of Romania received as a wedding gift from her mother in 1893, maybe a popular style at the time.
Behind the tiara seems to be two separate hair accessories.
That is very interesting Janet. I had never thought of the parallels before.
I haven't done a systematic search on the Marchioness' jewels so I am not sure what stones might have been in her necklace but, as she was once reported to have worn an emerald "crown" (in 1911), it is possible that the necklace contained emeralds.
I have another image of the Marchioness published in 1924 where she is seen wearing the same tiara mounted on a coronet frame, so obviously the jewel was flexible.
The tiara in style and versatility is not a million miles away from the Teck circles tiara or the so called serpent tiara given to Princess Marina by her mother and sold after her death
