Queen Maria II Sapphire Tiara Posted by RDavid on March 30, 2021, 8:10 am In May Christie's will be auctioning a tiara that I've been trying to trace for long. I couldnt believe when I saw it earlier today! It is a 9 part tiara of sapphires and diamonds, each part can be removed from the frame and worn as brooches. It was ordered by Queen Maria II of Portugal and was part of a demi-parure. In addition to Queen Maria's Tiara, the Hohenzollern family is also selling an extensive parure that comes from Stephanie de Beauharnais. Posted by Janet on March 31, 2021, 8:32 pm, in reply to "Re: Hohenzollern Sapphire Parure" Always nice to see a seemingly little known collection obtaining some attention - I am particularly fascinated by the Beauharnais jewels, given their age. It is extremely rare to have whole parures of jewels dating back that far - from memory only the Danes and Swedes can say that. I wonder if they are being auctioned to maximise their value based on the 200th anniversary of Napoleon's death this year. I do hope they are sold as a parure and not broken down. It would be fantastic if they were bought by a French or German museum or even that fantastic tiara museum in Japan. One of the Prince of Hohenzollern's daughters is engaged to be married and her mother wore the tiara on her wedding day, so I am a bit surprised that such an important tiara would be sold just beforehand, this depriving her of wearing it as her mother had.

This is indeed a fantastic reappearance, but I´m afraid, the last time we will have the chance to see a picture of it. I would be very surprise to see the parure sold as a whole. Does anyone remember an important parure not split when auctioned the last years? I think of the Habsburg Peridot Parure, oh dear... Don´t think any German museum would be able and willing to spend money on this collection. Short on money anyway, in trouble regarding Covid especial, they would be grilled by public. And there is no reason to do so cause there is no historical importance in this jewels from a German point of view.. What surprises me are the many ensembles connected with the Beauharnais heritage(s)! Nitot must have had a very good time...
