The Hohenlohe-Langenburg Tiaras
Posted by The Royal Watcher on April 24, 2021, 12:40 pm
While the 'Leaf Coronet' is interesting, I'm more intrigued by the the diamond necklace Princess Margarita wore at the Wedding Ball of Prince Juan Carlos of Spain and Princess Sophia of Greece in 1962. You can see the imprint of the necklace in this jewel case that still belongs to the family, though both of them could be the jewels either lost during a fire at Schloss Langenburg in 1963, or sold soon after!
There is another worn by Xenia's sister in law, Saskia.
Interesting and sad note. As a descendant of Queen Victoria, poor Xenia is a carrier of haemophelia which she passed to her son. The strain of that ruined her marriage. She is a very kind woman.

Today marks the 40th Anniversary of the Death of Princess Margarita of Greece and Hohenlohe-Langenburg, the eldest sister of the Duke of Edinburgh , and so to mark the anniversary today, I published some very interesting finds I've made about the Hohenlohe-Langenburg Tiaras !
One of the more interesting connections is about this Amethyst/Topaz and Diamond Floral Tiara which was worn by Princess Margarita at the Wedding Ball of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria and Countess Helen zu Toerring-Jettenbach in 1956 , and seems to be the same tiara worn more recently by her granddaughter, Princess Xenia of Hohenlohe-Langenburg at her Wedding in 2005.

I also included that Fleur de Lys Tiara in my article! Princess Cécile, talked about family jewels in an interview a few years ago:
"There were these family events or bigger balls or things that my parents or my aunt or grandmother attended. As a little girl of course there was just this thing when all the preparation started and all the dresses came out. They would all discuss which dresses they were going to wear, then who was going to wear which tiara and which jewels would go with what. When I was smaller and we were in London for the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, we were able to be there and watch from Buckingham Palace. I was still too young to go to any of the balls or anything, but it was special watching my mother getting dressed up and putting these things on. [It was special], just sitting there and staring at these things and getting to see them and grow up with them – not just in the trays but actually still worn which I think is rarer and rarer these days.”
The tiara worn by Saskia Binder to the then Herediatry Prince Philipp at her Wedding seems to be a VErsionn of the Leave Coronet as it has the Central leave and there are some smaller on the sides. But i think the base is different-

Thank you The Royal Watcher for this article on the sisters of the late Duke of Edinburgh. It's ironic when they call them genteel poverty folks as when they were a young family but yet all were able to marry into the most wealthiest and noble families around including at the top of the pile the BRF whom they had originally descended.
Regards,
Dave.

I wonder aside from Bolin ruby parure, how much of their collection can be traced to Maria Alexandrova, Duchess of Coburg & Edinburgh.
Her third daughter, Alexandra is an ancestor of the current Prince and based on letters and biographies, it seems Alexandra irked her sisters as she received what they perceived as being more generous gifts of jewels from their mother over the years.
