The colour image which British Royal Jewels has posted comes from a photo of the various members of the British Royal Family leaving St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle after Christmas services in 1970.

How frustratingly deceptive they show in the black and white images though!! As they appear to be of a very dark colour it is no wonder they were thought to contain emeralds - or even sapphires - until this coloured photograph emerged Now, we "only" need the Duchess of Cornwall to give us a new outing of the complete brooch, pendant and all. It's not an usual colour to be found in the collection of the British Royal Family. But I am sure that it could combine very well with many of the outfits worn by the Duchess. So I am really hoping that this will be worn more in the future. Re: Congratulations to British Royal Jewels Posted by Beth on November 25, 2021, 6:03 pm, in reply to "Re: Congratulations to British Royal Jewels" Like you I am amazed at the colour, but there is no doubt in my mind that the colour photo of QEQM at Christmas 1970 shows her wearing the brooch she wore to the Garden Party in 1937. I think many will be dreaming of seeing the Duchess of Cornwall wearing the jacinth brooch with its pendant. Hopefully when she does, the palace PR team will tell us more about its history and in particular which gemstone is in the jewel. The term jacinth (also sometimes called hyacinth) can encompass a couple of gemstones.
