Faberge in London Posted by JohnAF on April 16, 2022, 3:59 am Just back from the Faberge exhibition at the V&A museum in London, if you're in London & can get tickets it's a must see. They say it's sold out, but they're working to make more tickets available (whatever that means). Sadly no photography allowed but the catologue is now heavily discounted. Try for 'returns' if you can. This time I booked tickets about two months ago, normally I leave it until the last minute & then lose out .

Re: Faberge in London Posted by 992234177 on April 16, 2022, 9:53 am, in reply to "Faberge in London" I saw the exhibition in February and while I was a bit disappointed that it was smaller than I hoped it would be (it was certainly smaller than the last V&A Fabergé in 92/93) I was not disappointed in the eggs. I think there were about 16 or so eggs on display and they were beautifully presented. I was especially surprised by the Mauve/Swan egg and how lovely the matt enamel was. One of the eggs on display was the Rothschild Egg, donated by Putin to the Kremlin. I wonder if it’s been taken off. There were also a couple of items of jewellery. The most important items were three tiaras Mecklenburg-Schwerin Aquamarine tiara Westminster Myrtle Tiara Westminster Cyclamen Tiara. What I found most interesting about the jewellery was how big the Cyclamen Tiara was. I always assumed due to its delicacy that it was a small item but it was much larger than I thought. Also shown was the Imperial engagement Aquamarine Brooch, a swagged collet and lattice necklace a mosaic brooch and a pretty irregular snowflake pendant.

Re: Faberge in London Posted by JohnAF on April 16, 2022, 11:10 am, in reply to "Re: Faberge in London" There are some lovely jewels on display, particularly the aquamarine broock belonging to Empress Alexandra, which she managed to keep hold of until it was taken from her in Tobolsk. All the russian objects, including the Rothschild egg are still displayed. I do wonder how they're going to return the russian objects to St Petersburg & the Kremlin. I somehow missed the '92 exhibition, but did see the one in '77. I remember the Princes Royals riding crop being shown, not this time tho.

Re: Faberge in London Posted by 992234177 on April 16, 2022, 1:38 pm, in reply to "Re: Faberge in London" The one I saw wasn’t great for eggs, but what was great was a lot of household items like table silver and private imperial objects for daily use. It had the huge silver wedding anniversary clock of Alexander III and the two huge danish wine coolers. There was Queen Louise’s crochet hook and lots of items from European royal collection. I think I preferred it to this one though the eggs were amazing and I’m glad I saw it. The mauve enamel presentation box was especially magnificent and that was at the last exhibition also. I did notice that there were items on display that I noticed from the documentary about Prince Philip, that were in his library and on his desk.
