Last week we had a taxi from LaManzanilla pick us up in Boca to go the the airport in Manzanillo but neglected to ask the price until we were past Melaque. He said it would be 1600 pesos and we tried negotiating to no avail. I looked on the message board and confirmed it was a high price and was discussing it with my husband when we made the turn to the airport. 50 meters from there he pulled over and insisted we pay immediately. My husband gently replied…when we get to the terminal. He wouldn’t have it and began menacingly demanded we pay NOW. It turned to shouting and then screaming. We exited the cab and began walking hauling our luggage knowing it was a couple of miles. A car going in the opposite direction slowed to ask if he could help and the cab driver ran over saying we did not pay…well duh…we explained what happened and asked if he would give us a lift. He did and we gave him $1500 pesos for saving us.
The lesson here is always ask how much when you get in the cab.
