JR Sushi: The Real Deal!
Posted by del Siena on February 26, 2024, 10:19 pm
A wonderful new restaurant, JR SUSHI specializing in SUSHI ROLLS, has been opened by Rogelio and his wife, Laura. Rogelio apprenticed and then worked with a Japanese chef for over 20 years in California. He has now returned home to bless us with his skills. Laura, a 2nd grade teacher is helping her husband in the restaurant.
JR SUSHI is located at Maria Asuncion #106, two blocks down from the plaza, kitty corner from the health food store. Hours are 1 to 9pm, Sunday through Thursday. Prices are very reasonable, around $120 to $180 for a wonderful meal.
I walked the 800 mile Shikoku pilgrimage in Japan and can tell you, this is a true dining experience of Japanese sushi rolls. It is the real deal.
Question: I have had sushi in Japan, and from my local highly regarded Japanese sushi chef in USA. I have never seen cream cheese used as an ingredient. It sounds unappetizing, actually. I notice JR Sushi uses it as an ingredient in more than half of the rolls they have advertised. How then, can this be “the real deal?” Does it actually complement the sushi? Is this a California invention?
JR Sushi, 317-132-5149, Rogelio and Laura Get your own wasabi from Rosario. They do not serve it. Instead they offer chipotle sauce, tamari with jalapeño and teriyaki sauce.
I would copy and paste the Facebook post if I could figure out how, but if you use the search bar (upper left) on FB and just type in Jr Sushi it will take you to a post with their menu and contact info.
I've had a lot of sushi in my life, mostly on the West Coast of this continent. I love it and I must say that I super enjoyed my sushi at JR Sushi tonight. The owners are lovely people and eager to please. I was informed by the chef that wasabi is coming, likely next week. This will now be part of our weekly fare. I wish the owners well in this restaurant.
Oh the great debate: Is it Sushi if it contains cream cheese? Here is a link to an article (on a cooking site) that might help you decide. I believe the ‘taste is in the … mouth of the beholder’! Why not give Jr Sushi a try before you make up your mind! Open 1 -9 pm Sunday through Thursday
