Story Slam winners and gratitude
Posted by Little Tree on January 7, 2025, 10:13 pm
Thank you all who attended the Story Slam this evening. Thank you to all the story tellers who valiently stood up in front of 60+ people and told stories about themselves. Thank you to the numerous volunteers who helped produce the event, to Anne Wheeler, our gratitude for bringing her humor to us as the host, and to the three winners of tonights event: David Dagoli, Liza Michaelson and Larry Macintosh. We are so blessed as a community to be able to come together and share our stories, support others less fortunate than us, and to forge new friendships together. Anne Wheeler, myself and the three winners are going to visit three families in the community who are in serious need of financial support with a large percentage of the money received at the door. And we will hear their stories! YOU, OUR COMMUNITY has made this happen with your generous participation. Thank you a million times for supporting the Story Slam. You are simply the best.
Thank you Little Tree for hosting and for all the wonderful programming you have offered at Casa Luz over the year. The Story Jam was a blast! Thanks Anne, volunteers, story tellers and Judges!
A group of us including the winners of the Story Slam (Liza and me -Larry couldn’t come) went out with Little Tree and Anne Wheeler, to find and give away the prize money to people in need. The recommendations came from local residents Olga and Beto, who led us to their houses.
First was Don Javier and his wife Maria. Don Javier is 85 years old, can’t see or hear, and recently lost a leg to diabetes.
Next we visited Dońa Juana, who lives in nearby Los Ingenios. She's 96 and can’t hear very well, but she was very grateful for the prize money. A very sweet woman.
Our last stop was to see Socorro, 70 years old now, battling prostate cancer. He is getting radiation treatment 5 days a week in Colima, and then returns to work as a night watchman on the weekends.
Thanks for the opportunity to help this beautiful community!
