Attention Please! When I was in town today, a number of people were talking about forming neighborhood groups to purchase and administer antivenum serum for scorpions. Some said they had a nurse in their group, or someone who could give an injection. Please understand that there's more to it than that. My ambulance team last night had an hours-long training and need one more session before they are ready to administer the serum. There are key signs in addition to vital signs that must be monitored. The antivenom is available from Hector, the lab next to Las Cabañas, at Dra. Gaby's, and through the ambulance. If you chose to administer the drug yourself, please be aware of the dangers, and, preferably, get help from a trained professional. ¡Atención por favor! Cuando estuve en la ciudad hoy, un número de personas estaban hablando de formar grupos de barrio para comprar y administrar suero antivenum para los escorpiones. I so agree with Jeanne. Having been thru anti venom treatment once, and my wife twice - DO NOT try to do this on your own. You need proper medical supervision to monitor the signs - do you need a second vial, a third? What to do when you start vomiting - when you have trouble breathing. The pain can be excruciating - do you need pain meds added to the IV drip? Different scorpions react differently to different people.
