The taste of our water

I apologize if I missed this on the message board, is there an explanation as to why the city water has a very salty taste or is it just my system?

It is very hard water, lots of minerals and not recommended for drinking, particularly for us softies from the north that aren’t used to it.

We don’t like the taste of water stored in Plastic garrafons (big water bottles). Therefore, I installed a 3 stage undersink water filter in our house with a separate faucet. We’ve been drinking it without incident for the last three years. Available on Amazon.

This is the product I purchased in USA and installed in Mexico:

You will need to install a “T” connector on your cold water supply line, and you will need a separate faucet, which may be available as an accessory when you purchase the filters. Buy at least one spare set of filters because they need to be changed at 3 months, 6 months, and one year. Hope this helps.

Erin, it depends where you live in town.

Our town has water from 2 different wells. The well serving the “downtown” is of much better “quality” - about 300 ppm (particles per parts of million), acceptable levels are below 50. The well serving us here on the other side of town, towards the highway, has about 3000 ppm and plenty of salts, other minerals and plenty of coliform bacteria.

We know these numbers since we had the town’s water tested in a government run laboratory in Guadalajara.

So, bottom line, the recommendation is to not drink the water out of the faucet. Especially if you live in our part of town.

I don’t drink the water but what i did installed in my showers are filters that remove many of the minerals that clog the shower heads and are harsh on the skin. Take a look at nearmoon. I replace the filter about every six months. Certainly made a difference on the hair.

I use this product in my cistern…seems to be helping with the sarro (calcium lime deposits).
