Intercam
Posted by ErinS on July 24, 2025, 2:36 pm
I am sure that there are others that are in the same boat, how to transfer funds from Canada to Intercam (Mexico); I have exhausted the several companies that I have used in the past, all with zero success. I am now wondering if anyone is having any success? Thanks in advance for your assistance and suggestions.

Nope. We opened an account at Citibanamex Melaque today. Easy. Worth it. If Intercam survives the trump that would be nice. Better to cover ones bases.

Simple solution to a complex issue, for me personally, I moved my account from Banamex for a wide variety of reasons, namely very poor customer service and unwillingness to deal with non Spanish speaking clients, to put it bluntly, they did not care if we stayed or not, I felt preferable the later. Intercam at the time offered us a very fresh breath of easy customer oriented banking. So for the last five years, we’ve had just that. Now being faced with new challenges we are seeking new innovative solutions. Hence my post. Thanks for your support and advice!!!

BBVA was pretty easy to get an account in Melaque.

Definitely helps to know some Spanish but if you have passport, residency card,RFC, CRUP, last electrical bill, all ready to hand to her and a happy attitude we were complete under a half hour however we did arrive on a Thursday at 9:30 and no waiting.

Citibanamex is plain old Banamex again. When I moved from San Miguel to La Manz in 2013, it was the only bank with a branch in Melaque so I opened an account there. I have never had any problems, but it probably helps if you speak and comprehend Spanish.

I Erin, I'm in the same boat. I am looking into opening an account with Banco Santander in Manzanillo. Not as convenient but I'm looking for alternatives so I may continue to use WISE for a better exchange rate. I will let you know my experience if I open an account. Posted by Jean-Philipe on July 24, 2025, 1:17 pm, in reply to "Information re: Banco Santander in Manzanillo" Yes, I have successfully sent Wise transfers in MXN recently to both Santander and Scotiabank accounts.

We worked with Peter at Intercam and successfully wired money from US. The workaround was we sent pesos instead of dollars. Check with Peter in Melaque.

Will I be able to deposit a check from my Canadian credit union (in Canadian currency) at Intercam, and have it go into my account in pesos? I have done this in the past.

Best to contact Intercam directly to be sure but, from what I have read, foreign check/cheque deposits are no longer allowed. SpencerC/Moderator

I successfully sent a wire transfer, in pesos, from my U.S. Chase bank account directly to Intercam late last week and it arrived today. I only sent $100 USD as a test so I paid $5 and the exchange rate wasn’t great (it gets better with higher amounts and wire fee drops to $0). SpencerC/Moderator

I got back this statement from Intercam this morning:
OFFICIAL STATEMENT Following the recent publications issued by FINCEN, part of the U.S. department of treasury, which names Intercam Banco and two other Mexico-based financial institutions as a source of concern regarding potential money laundering, Intercam categorically deny any association between this institution and any illicit activity-particularly money laundering and reiterate our firm commitment to transparency and legality. Intercam Banco, for nearly 30 years, has operated in full compliance with all regulations established by national and international authorities, and in adherence to the principles of anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF). Intercam continues to operate normally and will continue supporting its clients, as we always have. We also remind our clients that their deposits are protected by the IPAB (Instituto para la Proctección al Ahorro Bancario), and that investment instruments are safeguarded by INDEVAL (Instituto para el Depósito de Valores). The statement issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury explicitly excludes Intercam´s U.S. - based subsidiaries. We will remain in constant communication with the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), the bank of Mexico, and the National Banking and Securities Commissions (CNBV). The SHCP has stated that, as of today, it has no information in this regard: Intercam Banco reiterates its categorical rejection of any allegations made against the institution concerning money laundering. Please be informed that Intercam is not able to send and receive wire transfers in any currency to any of its U.S. or Canada - based subsidiaries, no personal checks from any country or cash in any currency. Sending funds to your bank account will have to be in Mexican Pesos, present the information provided to your institution from your country or origin. If in case your institution will not allow you to send pesos. We suggest finding an alternative way to send pesos whether is thru a platform.
So it looks like a cash and carry holiday for this year until this mess gets sorted out.

After talking and much discussion the general consensus is: no to everything other to good old pesos as cash, Intercam’s ability to negotiate any form of currency other than pesos at this time is not going to happen, I wish I had a better outcome to my search for an alternative solution. So cash it will be.
