I assume this is mostly only relevant to P4, and most extensive in the SEC. What ranges are we talking about, and what are staffs being given by their ADs to work with?
To clarify, I’m not talking about the value of tuition, lodging or books and fees. I’m curious about (a) monies paid directly from schools to players, as now allowed as part of the $20.5M annual compensation pool per the House vs. NCAA settlement and (b) NIL deals outside of the university, whether they be from collectives, brands or local businesses.
The House settlement used a model of 80/10/5/5 - 80% football, 10% men’s basketball, 5% women’s basketball and 5% everyone else. But schools can decide what they want to do (e.g., they could give 100% to football for the time being, until a Title IX lawsuit or Congressional decision impacts).
So, 5% of $20.5MM is $1.025MM. If that’s the standard allocation at the top end, what do we think schools are giving softball? Does Gasso get $500,000 from OU? Does Perry get $50,000 from UI? Do Gasso’s players get another $500,000 from businesses and collectives (dollars she presumably influences…).
Even public schools seem to be fighting any disclosure on these payments, so it seems to be a total black budget currently. I know different schools prioritize different sports, but does anyone have any reputable information to share?
