I think the difference is that every Bandit/Chill kid gets looks because of proximity to greatness, whereas great kids on other teams have to bring the coaches. In the end, talent wins out, but if you have talent but can't differentiate yourself from the Bandit / Chill kid, they're going to win every time in the recruiting scenario.
