August can absolutely be used as a hiatus period from softball. Let things heal up, enjoy some of the other things in life. Then use late November into January as a shutdown period, to refuel and recover for the spring and summer.

The flipside of that is don't be surprised when players catch up or pass you/your daughter from working hard during those periods.
