An incident occurred during the Easton Rawlings Showcase this past weekend whereby the player intentionally ran into a player not looking who was well out of the base path to draw an interference call. Runner on second going to third. The girl knew what she was doing as she put her two arms over her chest before taking a route to third that no real player would take. The route was a direct line toward left field where the SS was standing.
Three things lead me to believe this unsportsmanlike behavior is being taught/condoned:
1 - the runner knowingly braces for impact before running into the fielder.
2 - the zig zag route taken to the base in a delayed manner. The runner took their standard move toward third after the pitch in a normal line. After stopping in the base path, the runner proceeds to cover their chest with two arms in anticipation of impact and run toward the SS who is out of the base path. This impact is made as the runner is zigging toward left field. The runner then zags back to the base path and toward third base. Essentially making a point of a triangle with their route to third.
3 - the third base coach (her father) then gives her a five and smiles as a proud scumbag would.
The SS could have been injured because a degenerate coach thinks about “winning” at all costs. What does this behavior tell the coaches who were watching about this player and all players on that team. IPF should do better about vetting who they allow to
wear their jersey. The integrity of the game and the safety of the game is more important than the franchise fees being collected.
As coaches and parents, please do better. This play is a disgusting example of unsportsmanlike behavior that should be exposed and condemned by all members of the SB community.
