True Question

Please explain what a weekend at a showcase should look like and what expectations should be.
If players tweet out their schedules and a college coach shows up, what role team coaches, players and parents have?
What is the role of the travel team coach during this weekend?
We are heading into our first showcase of the season this weekend and need to know my place along with her coaches role and her role so I can guide her the best I can.

Have your daughter let her coach know who she has been sending emails to so if they show up he/she can talk with them after game.

Don't be so worried about who will show up and not, dont have your daughter worry either, praise her on her best and worst days. Enjoy the process dont let it stress you out. If your daughter put in the work it will show.

the team she plays for should be batting the entire lineup if they dont find somewhere else

Her list of colleges should be refined monthly meaning adding and dropping

Being on a top team helps as they have the relationships already established.

If you are not at a top tier program,(Bandits, Chill, IMG or Iowa Premier) you need to ask the coach or the program director to have a sit down with parents and players and lay out how they will handle the showcases. In all honesty, If they have not already discussed this with the team you may want to find a new organization.

How was the comment stupid? I know your daughter never played for one of those organizations but mine did. I will tell you recruiting is laid out to the parents from the beginning. And I stand by my comment, if your daughter is recruiting age and you are heading to a showcase and the organization has not gone over all of this, you need to leave. As far as the other commentor who brought up all of the other teams who get girls to D1, I never said they do not, all I said was the big name travel organizations that recruit in the Midwest, all the players and parents know who handles talking to the college coaches and how the recruiting works in those organizations.

I see the Bandits got three kids committed to Florida State, four kids committed to Louisville, two kids to Michigan, two kids to Auburn, a kid to Virginia, Stanford, Illinois, Penn State, Georgia, Indiana, Wisconsin and mid majors.. What’s the secret!

There is no secret. You mentioned most of the Bandits P4/5 commits but the Bandits have had nearly as many mid majors commits as P4/5. The recruiting landscape has changed drastically over the past few years. Players and teams need to adopt to new environment sooner than later. There is different paths to get to your ultimate goal, regardless if your goal is to get the best education possible or if your goal is to get to the WCWS.

What schools that compete consistently for a college world series are garbage schools? What D1 P4 schools are looked down upon?

What defines best? Best education and best softball aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. It's all about finding an environment where your child will thrive based on what makes them unique.

- Can they compete academically at a school? Potential isn't only limited to athletics.
- Do they want an urban or "rural" setting?
- Do they care about other sports, i.e. Do they want to go to school where football is an event?
- Is there a supportive alumni when it comes to advancing their careers?
- Is it in a geographic area they would choose to reside in?

Your exact statement is why they can hand-pick the best athletes. Do they get them all? Of course not, but they attract an extremely high level of talent based on their ability to place players in the best programs.

Exactly, Bandits, Iowa Premier, IMG and the Chill typically pull talent from multiple states. They have first choice of players to roster. College coaches know these teams have vetted their rosters and get top talent so they know these are the organizations they need to follow. Recruiting is going to keep evolving, you need to keep up with the times.

Times have changed!

The orgs you mentioned above, while very good at getting college eyes on players, they are by far not only teams around that know how and get kids recruited at D1 and other levels.

Think Wis Lightning, New Lenox Lightning, Sparks, Silver Hawks, Cheetahs (probably forgetting a few other quality programs) and others who CONSISTENTLY send many players every year to D1 programs and usually entire teams to the next level!

WI Lightning and NLL are sending a lot of players to D1. Check the commits for the last couple years. Midwest orgs having that many D1 commits is pretty impressive. They are not the Bandits or Chill but still are having success.

#1 - do not bother the coaches, do not talk to. If they ask you questions about the team, answer, but do not engage in conversation.

#2 - leave the entire backstop area and 1st couple rows of bleachers clear for them. Don't be the idiots that camp in front of the backstop and block their views.

#3 - Coaches should have a plan in place for the head coach or the best talker on staff to float around and chat up all the coaches.

#4 - make sure you have info flyers easily accessible for the coaches

#5 - Have the players reach out early in the week to the schools that are interested in, provide schedules, field locations, and pitcher/catching rotations.

#6 - enjoy the game. cheer for everyone

Players should be talking to coaches on what schools they should be looking out for.

Coaches should make sure players that have coaches there are in their primary positions when coaches are there - they don't have to be there the whole time but need to see a few innings.

Coaches generally will talk up the coaches, provide references and encourage them for other potential players of need.

Honestly, this is really different based on the organization your with. Some have recruiters, some don't. One thing is always clear. Parents sit and be quiet, don't bring attention to yourself and don't block a coaches view of the field.
