Connections?

Does a player whose parent coaches' high school or college help them make a team just because of the parent's title/connections/influence?

I love seeing these TB parents that have zero regard for the personal time/money it takes for HS coach to build a winning program. Of course they do it just to get wealthy donors kids looks. They would rather lose games and brown nose donors than play your little darling.

It's too funny. Carry that hatred to college. I'm sure every D1 P4 coach is on the hook too. LMAO.

I would like to know what schools would have parents coaching? We do not need to name sport or school, it dont have to be softball either. I think this subject is interesting but yet kind of creepy too.

Quick example is Bob Hurley Sr., who coached his sons in high school basketball. Won 26 New Jersey state championships, in 39 years, and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

His sons won multiple NCAA Championships each - one as a player and one as a coach. Current coaches at Arizona State University and University of Connecticut.

I want to know the names of the Schools that have parents coaching, Collage or High School. No individual names just the schools name.

It's not necessarily always parents coaching at that particular school, but who the girl might be related to. Who is their Aunt or Uncle, or dads buddy who may be coaching in High School elsewhere or a college coach. Or who heavily financially contributes to the athletic departments, and who you know. If there's not some type of politics involved, you're either super lucky or super naive.

A parent who coaches post level high school can open a lot of doors for their child and/or relatives due to their connections in the softball world.

If you are asking if it's possible that someone could receive preferential treatment based on their connections, station, influence or wealth that is beyond their actual skill set...

I can assure you that this has never, and will never, happen in softball.

This is because we all live in a perfect meritocracy, where people advance only based on the "content of their character and the velo on their swing".

More simply put: this is the most ridiculous question I've seen on here in weeks.

That's really specific and a very small subset of HS/College Coaches. I'm going to say yes, but there are maybe two of those situations in the Midwest.

Coached kids from pee wee through college and there’s a strong possibility may go pro with them. So ya kind of can’t say never.

even worse on the college end when the kids that have the parents with the most money can "buy" their kids way onto the team and a position. and yes my kid played and no we don't have money like that and yes i saw it first hand.

Clearly, this post is about LC, a nationally ranked program that has been established for the last six or seven years and carries a rich tradition of winning in their program. I could see if an unestablished program had an issue with a parent coach. Penn has also been running with a mom and dad, duo and repeatedly has won without any issues. You’d have to imagine in such a large corporation, the athletic department that even the athletic Director would have a good pulse of what goes on each team and would intervine if any issues were present with a coach.
