I really comes down to the assistants that get hired. You can cover a lot of ground with great assistants.

As a parent of a recently former Cheetah, this probably has a lot to do with Bowman’s “501C3” program and being a friend to the UIC program..:because Coronado does not have the resumè for a D1 head coaching spot

Let me follow the logic here... because the Chicago Cheetahs set up a 501(c)3 charity a few years back, one of their coaches was hired by UIC? I assume you understand the charitable fund disbursement rules... which does not permit a bag of cash being used to induce schools to hire coaches (or whatever that innuendo is...)

Go to the IRS website and search for Building Strong Women Leaders. You'll see everything you need to know - certainly no payments to UIC, and no payments even to Bowman. It's a small charity, but the purpose and aims are great - to support women, specifically those who enter the coaching ranks so they can make an actual career of it.

Come on. Let's not tear down. Let's be happy for a local player and coach getting this opportunity!

Coronado is a player and coach with very solid experience. She relates to her players extraordinarily well. She will bring youth, energy, social media saviness, and familiarity with the area (as club coach and DePaul player) that will be invaluable for recruiting. The UIC website features quotes from Frank Lenti and Cat Osterman praising her and the hire.

I predict that we'll all be happy with her results by year three, and wondering how UIC will hold onto her by year four.

So, let me see if I track the logic of your IRS suggestion:
- you are going by what the IRS has reported from the BSWL outfit? They must be the first company of any kind to honestly report to the IRS, then.
It makes no sense for UIC to have hired her when the program is in such shambles.

As far as location challenges: both Valpo and Dayton have those same issues. I agree. However, Dayton and Balpo hired seasoned coaches, Not a travel ball coach, to get the program in the right direction.

A risky hire, at best, by UIC. One in which I don’t think will work out very well.

It will be very difficult to be successful there regardless.
1- Conference is very difficult
2- Hard to recruit there considering the location of the campus. This is why previous coaches had to go to the west coast to get players. I wouldn't want my kid living there.
3- Facilities are sub par. (DePaul has the same problem)

I do not know her personally but I do know players that played for her and she wasn't well liked. Now take that with a grain of salt as no coach is going to be liked by everyone.

Glasco was a travel ball coach who worked up the ranks. It's important to be able to attract local talent and be aware of the organization's to pull from locally to be successful at UIC. Time will tell if she is a good hire, I do not think she can do any worse....

Please, Coach Glasco, and what other travel coach? He's been a Head Coach for eight years and was an SEC Ass't for ten years prior. He is a complete outlier.

Yes, those are real challenges. And probably contribute to the fact that their coaching prospect pool doesn't include Mike White and Patty Gasso!

(In other words, to criticize a more challenged program for taking a more inexperienced coach doesn't seem logical.)

1. A difficult conference can cut both ways, i.e., the competition is good.

2. Yes, this may make the pool smaller, but there are lots of schools that face location challenges, e.g. Have you ever been to Valporaiso or Dayton?

3. The field is beautiful. The skyline backdrop is an enviable selling point.

Again, congrats to a "local kid" doing well. Let's wish her the best!

First, and this is not a defense of the new UIC coach as much as it is a merciless attack on the quality of travel ball coaching, but...

Are you kidding me that she is "average"?!

Now, if you are defining "average" as wins and losses, I'll admit to not having those records at my disposal. But, I find it hard to believe that you can walk around any high level club tournaments anywhere in the country and find many higher quality persons.

In other words, the "average" travel ball coach couldn't carry the cleats of most DIII coaches!

I've seen high-level coaches in action, from the Chicago area to some of the very top in the country. (You know the ones... referenced on PGF and NCAA broadcasts.) No doubt many of those "celebrity" coaches have exceptional records... but if you think for a second that all of them are exceptional coaches or people, you either don't understand coaching, or you don't value the whole person that is these kids - whose life extends, and should be valued far beyond, softball.

Has this young lady won enough? I dunno. Is she a great softball tactician? I dunno.

Is she someone you can feel great about your daughter being mentored and challenged by?

The answer to that most important question is YES.

Since UIC moved conferences it has been difficult to compete. There were cultural issues that turned things from difficult to nearly impossible. I’ve never coached against Megan but the feedback I received was positive as a former player and coach. Whatever nuances she might be lacking her assistant coach will more than fill the void. There certainly are challenges to recruiting at UIC but the area is abundantly better than it was 20 years ago with one of nicest backdrops of any college campus. As I mentioned before, her biggest obstacle is the culture including players and parents. The X’s and O’s she will do fine with.
