Out-of-the-box

Somehow the umpires need to do a better job monitoring slappers going out-of-the-box. I just witnessed the one and two hitters for a well known team (Battle of Borders) each do it three times in one game with huge implications on the outcome of the game.

Can’t do it in college girls cuz the eye in the sky does not lie.

This just happened yesterday. Brings the "Out of the Box" rule back in line with NFHS.

I remember a tournament last summer where the loud parents and coaches for the other team were relentlessly complaining about our slappers being out of the box. The funniest part was when the ump called the slapper out for the team that was complaining about our team.

Interesting that nobody on this board is declaring the slappers are not breaking the rules. Similarly nobody is saying the rule is not being enforced by the umpires.

My guess is you don't know the rules. If it is NFHS, the rule is the ENTIRE foot has to be out of the box. That means, if ANY part of the foot is on the line, even just a small part of the heal, then your in the box.

The rules for NCAA are completely different. If ANY of the foot is out of the box, they it is a dead ball and the opposing team chooses the outcome.

Play defense, get them out, then have the last laugh.

Shift the defense and make them do something they don’t want to do. Think instead of complain.

I know of an un-named 18U team who’s 3 slappers are constantly out of the batters box and it never gets called.
It is plainly unfair and against the rules.

You have undoubtedly uncovered a massive conspiracy that crosses sanctioning organizations, umpiring organizations, and state lines. Call the G Men!

Or, they are really freakin’ good at pushing it to the limit and maximizing their opportunities!

Seems like a whole lot of whining. Were they REALLY out of the box, or did they just cause problems and frustration for you team, trying to get them out, so in your mind they must have been "constantly" out of the box? Slappers are the most exciting part of the game, they can be very difficult to stop, but try and stop them yourselves by pitching better and playing tighter defense instead of hoping the umpires stop them.

No video challenge for batter out of the box in college. Also in travel the foot just needs to be touching the line to be safe, where in college any part of the foot out of the line you are out.

Slappers are like things of the past. A lost art. Did you watch the World Series? How many slappers did you see? NONE! Games are tight, games are low scoring for the most part. Colleges want girls that punish and put the ball over the fence. Period.

Such a dumb comment about slappers being a part of the past. Tight games are perfect for speed players to take over, and force chaos.

They're part of the game that is very exciting to watch.

Where did you see them????? I watched every game and seen a total of 2 from the final 32 on. Slapping is a thing of the past, no real coach wants a punch and judy hitter when 2b and Cf are hitting 10 homers in 30 games. Slapping is out!!!

If the player can only slap, there’s a problem. If she can hit away, or hard slap (drive) the ball to the gap, go ahead and bring your defense in. She’s going to 3.
