Lewis

Looking for honest opinions. My daughter has Lewis on her list, but just found out they had 9 girls quit after this past season and only had 2 Sr's on the roster that both graduated. Only 2 Sr's seems low.

Have heard multiple mixed opinions on both the Head coach and Asst coach. I know we live in a transfer portal world, but this seems like a lot of movement for a D2 school.

Please keep replies professional, trying to evaluate schools.

This post seems like a targeted attack from a player or parent of a player that left to stir up drama. I say that because Lewis does not have a 2026 roster up. So how would you know exactly 9 players transferred? Seems shady.

Now let's talk about the world of softball (and any other college sport).

1. Kids have zero patience and if they do not get to play, they bail. Happens in all sports.

2. Some girls realize after getting to college that they do not love the sport as much as they thought. The grind of practices/games/travel/therapy is exhausting.

3. The real question should be do any transfer players end up playing somewhere else or did they "retire"? I know some players retire for losing the love of the game, some for injury reasons, and some to focus on demanding academic programs.

4. Does a team lose starters to the portal or does a team lose girls that are not playing? Losing starters I think is a bigger issue than losing possible disgruntled bench players.

It looks like Lewis has had recent success both in conference and getting to the NCAA tournament the past few years so it can't be all bad.

Had multiple players recruited by the HC a couple years ago and after they attended a camp, they both contacted the coach to not reach out. Something to be said about a 16/17 year old getting that feeling in an extended morning.

If you look at other schools, there will most likely be low numbers for seniors. A lot of players do choose their academic schedule over playing. By the time they are seniors they either have clinicals and other stuff going on that make it very difficult to continue playing. More than likely there are other factors involved as to why they leave that are just not glamorous to talk about, so you don’t hear about it. As a whole, the turnover rate is high by the time players become seniors.

Listen to your gut. It says a lot about a program that has that many players leave. Have your DD reach out to a few players that left and see what they have to say. No reason for a coach to recruit a player and never plan on playing them.

Or have your DD reach out to the players that are still at the school and see how they feel about the program. Definitely no reason to never play them except maybe they just can’t get it done in practice or games when given the opportunity.
So listen to your gut, probably have a hard time breaking the starting 9 anyways. Then yours would blame others and hit the portal also. Best of luck in your search for the right fit

I think you have to look at movement as a potentially good thing. When you say quit, I assume you mean left the program, potentially to play elsewhere. Typically, you don't have that much movement unless the players are relevant. Moving players, in a positive view, were either underrecruited or they were developed while at their original school; neither is a bad thing.

On the other hand, you may be using this as a setup post to criticize the existing coaches.

You can spin it whichever way you want your narrative to flow, but not every transfer is an indictment of the program. Sometimes players have a better opportunity.

Depends. If she wants to be a pilot, it's a great school to attend and play softball. Seems like they have been competitive in softball
