Bitter AF

There is absolutely no worse sports parent than the travel parent whose child doesn't succeed in high school ball. They couldn't wait to have their moment, reap the rewards of their investment, be the center of attention, and "bam" the kids just average. The excuses start flying, "we don't care about high school", it's actually kind of fun to watch. You can't hide from mediocrity when you don't control the environment.

Mediocre players can appear to be better than they actually are when surrounded by elite players. If you are a pitcher on the bandits or other high level travel club who has an elite defense behind you, your mistakes and inadequacies are better shielded from the viewing eye. When you have an offense that piles on runs for you, it will look as though you won more games.

The reality of HS ball is that you no longer have a stacked roster to bail you out. You face the reality of your own skill set. See LP or Schaumburg for perfect examples. All of a sudden, ERAs and WHIPs climb while Ws are replaced with Ls.

At the end of the day, SB is a team sport. No matter how good mommy and daddy think princess is, if she doesn’t have a solid team around her, she will fail.

Both those kids were Freshman, give them a break. Schaumburg had a winning record one other time in the past 10 years. She was part of the reason why. Lake Park has a tough schedule and she stepped in, pitched the majority of their innings after their #1 was injured. I saw them both pitch. They were good at times and bad at times but they are Freshmen. We will see how they progress. The market will decide how good they are September 1, 2027 not Pitch McGiggles. I don't understand why someone gets joy out of a 14 year old kids failures or shortcomings.

It's just like when an average team beats a highly ranked team. They celebrate like they just won a national championship. Then they talk crap for the rest of the season. Until it's playoff time.

This sounds more like a parent of a player who is playing travel locally, trying to measure up to the player who plays a much better schedule.

When your kid plays a mediocre level of travel, she's mediocre. No matter how much you want her to measure up to a better player.

There is another side to that, the girls on rosters that play a BIG schedule yet they are mediocre players themselves. Like most things, it swings both ways. The schedule doesn't make the player. In the elite world, yes, but there is a lot between mediocre and elite trying to act elite.

The competition you play, the competition within your roster for innings and at bats, and just practicing with better players will absolutely make a player better.

Who's likely to work harder? A player who has no equal on a sub-par team who is automatically batting 3rd and playing SS? Or a player with 15 equivalent players competing for playing time and at bats?

It amuses me as well.

The same kids who are great in travel are great in high school. Difference: you get the "part-time" travel kids who are great athletes and beat out the full-time, high-dollar average athletes.
