Success in an NIL world

Strange situation, but does anyone believe that the Tech Matador Club is happy with back-to-back runner-up finishes? Does that potentially cost Glasco his job?

I gotta admit, I was on the fence about liking the Tech setup until 6 lied on national TV to create drama. Pushed me to the entitled, self-centered mercenary side. I like that players get paid when possible, I don't like the "we're getting picked on" bullshit from the kids and parents when it's pointed out.

Teegan Kavan is the real deal. I hope she gets paid well.

AND not once did they cut to her parents acting a fool in the stands or sitting behind home plate. I thought that $h&t stopped after 10U. Some parents are so tone deaf I am embarrassed for them.

Getting to the show means something. The viewership was crazy, and ESPN did a good job again. Gerry embracing the bad guy role was some fun.

Maybe we should be talking about Tennessee and Florida's coaches who are repeatedly failing to get to the show. You can throw Alabama into the mix as well.

Kudos to Mississippi State and their coaches for overachieving this post-season.

In my world, getting to show means something, but if I'm spending $3M, questions will be asked if I'm not winning.

I'm not sure there aren't multiple coaches who could get to the show on a $3M budget. Kind of apples and oranges if the majority of your roster has to be recruited.

The worst part is everyone sidestepped the tampering allegations. It was never mentioned by the announces despite being well reported on last June. The Matador Club and Nate Nelson have denied the allegations but I think it is pretty clear several of those transfers signed in April of 2025. The tampering was the real issue every program in the country had an issue with not necessarily the transfering. Throw in some of the parents acting like idiots and they are hard to like. I think other programs were caught off guard last year and this year all programs have been reaching out through back door channels. We will see how many players announce commitments, or enter with no contact tags on Monday. The post House settlement rules don't appear to be working in football and basketball so I expect the craziness to continue in softball. Texas Tech is relevant and will continue to push the market.

I've never seen anything that suggests Weekly made a comment, and in this day and age, I'm sure it would have surfaced because it's a better story. I guess my point is that if you're going to drop $3-$4M in this sport, you'd better win. In reality, I'm sure some of the Texas players have significant NIL deals as well.

1. I believe they are reasonably happy with their investment. The highest payrolls don’t always win in any sport, but Matador put TTU on the map as a viable sustainable Top 25 team (important since they are non-SEC).

2. Glasco is safe, though I don’t expect that he’s around too much longer. He did most of what he was brought there to do, but he ain’t a spring chicken.

I try not to let one kid’s behavior let me conclude about a whole team, and I’m still not sure that Weekly didn’t say something to her after the line pass.

The only problem with the modern era is the hypocrisy of universities. If you don’t wanna pay players, divest yourself of ownership of these assets (create a perpetual and exclusive licensing agreement), and you can go back to the la la land of moral superiority.

The schools are a swamp, so let them squirm.

That is a great way to put it. My family went from being the biggest Texas Tech fans last year to hoping that someone would beat the obnoxious team. They all turned out to be crybabies. Everyone forgets about the girls that got them there last year were all benched for a worse finish this year. The SS and C were the only ones to retain their spots, and I guarantee you the SS will be replaced with a mercenary next year. How long can they keep it up, seeing as they dont really recruit and just fill with transfer.

The one thing that drove me nuts all tournament was all the kudos from the announcers to the pitchers for the low ERA and the hitters for all the HR batting average and RBIS. The SEC stands alone and if they played all year in the SEC they wouldnt have near the stats they accumulated.

We see this year after year in travel at the highest levels do we not? I mean these programs will bench whoever if a kid comes over that is better.....

Isn't that the way competitive programs should work? Everyone claims they want their kid to compete for their spot, until they have to.
