Come Now, Bite Through These Wires
I’m In Waking Hell & The Gods Grow Tired
The insect found herself before a Dragon, but he didn’t scare her. Not like one usually would, instead she shivered from the cold. Her fur dripping from the sea in the winter air did not feel pleasant. She watched Mori, her fire-like eyes curious as she watched his own gaze soften before he spoke. ”Drekistone is one of the many packs of Starfall, the large island of which you landed on. You happened to wash up on the rocky shores at the base of Drekistone’s cliffside.” As the male looked back inland for a moment, her own gaze wandered in. His eyes looked back to her once more before he spoke again. ”Come. Let’s get you into warmth.” A smile curled on her lips as she hurried to stay closeby behind him as he walked. "Thank you." She spoke softly.
Her wings clung to her back against the bristling cold as she hurried along with her new companion. He was her light in this darkness, a fog in her brain that only she could see. A beacon. As they approached a den of stone, she hitched her breath. He was taking her home to help her. She waited as he stepped inside, then came back out and motioned for her to go in. She nodded and slowly stepped in, her golden gaze on Mori before he took off to the sky. She swallowed, sitting down as she shivered. She decided instead to curl up into a ball to try and warm herself as she waited for Mori to return with presumably some wood to kindle a fire. As she sat in wait, shivering, she noticed a pink glow from her chest. A strand that connected out of the den. That wasn’t . . . Always there, was it?
She heard Mori return, and lifted her head. He came in and set fire to the kindle, immediate warmth flushing over her body as she gave a relieved sigh. Her jaws parted to speak, but he was already off again. She cocked her head to the side in confusion, wondering why he had left again. She sighed, taking in the warmth in the meantime while her toes thawed from the heat of the fire. Her eyes looked at her thin wings, frail looking but beautiful. She moved them, now that they weren’t frozen to her or painful to move. As Mori returned she quickly moved her head to face him. He had a hare in his jaws, which he set down and nudged forward. A shy smile crossed her lips, but only was it then that she saw the pink strand connecting them. Her smile dropped slightly as she wiggled her still shivering body to the hare. ”Rest up. We’ll find you a den to call your own when you’re ready.” She nodded, taking a bite of the hare and swallowing before she spoke. "Thank you for all of your help, Mori." She spoking, looking at him with a sweet smile. "I do have a question . . . What is this strand between us? Has this always been there?" She asked softly, looking down to it. "I don’t . . . I don’t understand." She spoke between shivers, her body still drying from the waters she came from.
