”Hello, Wendigo,” Athena crooned. She realized she’d already asked. ”Oh goodness, I already asked, didn’t I? I’m so sorry. I’m not the sharpest claw on the paw today.” As they entered the den, she gave him room to spare, curling in the back. Her eyes flicked about. Athena wondered about Wendigo’s scars: the burns on his face. How had he gotten them? They seemed to be brutal. What had he done, stuck his face in a fire? As Wendigo spoke, she shifted her gaze to him. ”I’m glad. Sometimes, on the bitterest days, it’s not so warm.” She smiled sympathetically as he shivered. There was a cold draft of wind in the den. ”Are you warm enough?” She was definitely not so warm. Although she wasn’t actually cold.

Wendigo’s next comment made Athena snort-laugh-cough. ”Um I-well I-” she stuttered. Athena flushed. ”I . . . I don’t know.” The question was very unexpected. Athena had never been with anyone, per se, and she knew that her sister had been quite a romantic. Sindri had been able to wrap men around her little finger and before you knew it, she’d had a fling. Athena was awkward when it came to crushes or mentions of a fling.You make me a winner now I can't lose;
