The queen, now fully insane-her mind always flickering rapidly from sweet to furious-summoned for her children. Helene she could trust, but Asmodeus and Vryko she couldn’t. Hellie wasn’t about to go off and find Wendigo. Her fury spiked. It always did when she thought of Wendigo, Asmodeus, Vryko or Kublai.
It wasn’t long before her daughter, her most unassuming child, stepped out of the trees, bounding over to her. “Hello, Mother.” Helene didn’t know of the events that had gone on with her siblings, mother, and the Tarben iota, Kublai. Ignoring her daughter, she called for Swallowtail.
“Mother, what’s going on? Is there something wrong?” Helene asked. Athena turned to her and flames leapt up. At the expression in her mother’s eyes, the vampire girl actually flinched back. Suddenly, looking at her vampiric daughter, all Athena could see was Wendigo. The traitorous Vryko who wanted her father. “Stay quiet,” she snarled. “And don’t speak to me again.” Helene swallowed.
Athena’s fire suddenly faded. “I’m sorry, Lene-” she started. But her daughter shrank back from her. The damage was done. Now Helene could see that her mother wasn’t entirely sane, that something had happened. At this point, Athena rapidly switched back to anger. “Answer me, girl!” she demanded. “What is wrong with you?! You’re just like your traitorous, useless sister.” A snarl transfigured her lips. “Are you a traitor too? Are you planning to go see your father??”
Helene yelped in fright. “No, Mother, I-he’s a jerk, you said, I would never want to be like him!” Athena detected none of the truth in the child’s voice and eyes. She snarled.
“I’m losing it, all I get’s insanity, insanity!”
