IT MAY BE YOUR LAST
The Princess was angered to say the least, such a disrespectful question. But that made her wonder, why was he so upset by her? Had he already had a mate, and only wished for her to be a secret? If that were the case she would sever the tie this instant and return to Amberbjorne. She noticed however when she spoke of Beartooths death, something changed in the brute she was tied at the chest to. ”He’s… dead? Beartooth is dead?” So Ranjord was as out of the loop as she thought. Were the Alphas so uneducated on the laws, or just withholding this all for now? The male shifted into a less defensive posture, but she held hers and watched him unravel. ”Is he… really dead? How? Do you know who is taking his place?”
Valkyrie nodded, her eyebrows still narrowed as she kept her feathers puffed out. Her head still high. "He's truly dead. Soraya killed him, rightfully so I mean the man was a monster and dooming all of Starfall with death and war. Of course not before he landed another blow and killed Pandora, Sabertooths alphess." She gave a soft sigh. "He died in the last war, Sabertooth against Tarben. His one daughter I guess went missing from Tarben entirely, and wound up found dead in a den with some dead Sabertooth guy. Then Sabertooths Prince plucked Beartooths sons mate off out of Tarben like a hawk catching a fish. Beartooth sent Phobus to do his dirty work, breaking treaty with half the realm. Phobus killed a Sabertooth Princess. Most of Tarben was wiped out, but Beartooths daughter Lova rules with her mate Erik." She looked the male up and down briefly as she spewed her knowledge. Themis truly was terrified of Phobus being let out. "I'm surprised your alpha's haven't told you. Aelous rules Sabertooth now, he and Erik met with every alpha to plan a pack wide peace treaty." She'd wait for if he had any other concerns before speaking more.
”I think I know who their mother is, in which if it is the case, your guess about their lineage would be correct. I used to be a member of Tarben – I saw a chance for a high ranking, however, I wasn’t a fan of their claiming ways. One thing led to another and then Beartooth wanted my head for treason... I escaped here. It was the only safe place without affecting others. I’ve been afraid to go back to the mainland since. Frankly, I thought you were here to…” She tilted her head to the side with his words as he trailed off. She wanted to hear the rest. ”It wasn’t fair to you that I greeted you with such hostility. I apologize for my horrible, horrible first impression and my assumption of the worst.”
Her feathers settled, as did her body posture. To a more relaxed state. ”Hi Valkyrie, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you. My name is Pontchartrain. I was once Tarben’s Beta, but now I live here as Ranjord’s Delta. That's when it all clicked into place - He was of Tarben, but tarnished in name. Outcasted and bountied under Beartooths reign. "You were mated to Skadi, Beartooths bastard girl. I guess I came to you at a better time than when this first appeared, she's the one they found in a den with the Sabertooth boy." She spoke, once more turning her head to the side."Starfall is full of gossip, you were on the field with me when the whole realm broke into war over Phobus's actions. At the time I was only a Sigma, but I liked to learn of all of the packs whereabouts, rankings, and such. Mainly your name stuck out because no one had been outcast from Tarben to my knowledge - or anyone's knowledge. What you did must have been horrific if he kept Phobus but threw you out." She spoke softly as everything clicked in her head. "I'm not here to dig into your past. I caught a body too already myself, and not from war. More so for a pleasantry." She shook her head, looking to the ground with a small smile.
She looked back up and watched as Pontchartrain spread mist to the children in front of her. The one yawned, as the other pawed at the mist. She grinned. Children was never something she thought of having herself, yet they were so cute. ”I really do apologize Valkyrie. I hope you can forgive me, but I still respect you if you choose not to.” Her rubies looked up to meet the ocean blues of his. "You were guarded and fearful, I can't say I blame you. I forgive you." She smiled. "You're not in danger anymore, if that's what you fear. Beartooth is dead, Phobus seemed to vanish, and the realm is trying to mend the actions of those who came before they did. Besides, you have a second warrior at your back now."
