Daneliya noted the Sabertooth queen’s swollen belly and her beautiful appearance. ”Hello, Queen Pandora,” she said respectfully. ”I’m Daneliya, and this is my brother Remus, daughters Chickadee, Derevko and Snowflake, and son Calvin. We come from Hawthorne, where I was falsely accused of an affair; we left because there was no point in trying to deny it, not when my now ex-mate is the brother of the queen,” Danya explained. ”I was afraid he’d kill Calvin and Snowflake-who are the children of the wolf I had a fling with hours before Maverick and I became mates-and lie to the queen. He knew just when my fling was and was angry I had borne children who were not his own. It was a double litter.”
Remus coughed. Danya knew he was still not happy with her for the trouble she’d caused them. But what could she say? Mistakes happened. She was not perfect.
Derevko, her scales glimmering, basked in the sun. She eyed Pandora with a wary look. Derevko was a sharp claw, that was for sure. She was wary, unlike her family. That was probably smart, Danya surmised. Snowy was fidgeting and Chicka was standing in between Remus and Calvin. The latter was grinning at Pandora sweetly.
"And the moon has scattered the satin all over the room . . ."
