Where I'm going with this story is most of those players had "day jobs," and their pro sports career was a second job. Like they worked for some company doing something, and during football season played for... the New York Giants, or New York Yankees if it was baseball season.
Forget not Donald Trump tried very hard to buy a team. He is exemplary of what many owners are like. But the other owners disliked Trump and locked him out. He tried to form his own football league, just as he is now trying to destroy the PGA with LIV Golf.
He is also a golf cheater.

Donald Trump won two golf tournaments in one week—but that hasn't stopped people from using the opportunity to criticize the former president.
Trump, the presumed 2024 GOP presidential nominee, won the Club Championship and the Senior Club Championship at Trump Golf Palm Beach. This means he has also won his third title of the season, following his Super Senior Championship glory earlier this year.
The 77-year-old took to Truth Social and Instagram to share the news, writing: "A great honor to have won both the Club Championship and the Senior Club Championship this week at Trump International!" Newsweek emailed a Trump spokesperson for comment Monday.
According to witnesses including other players, Trump played his rounds earlier than all the other golfers, so his scores were not witnessed or verified. On the courses, he took lots of gimmies to lower his score. His was the low score to beat, and nobody did!
This wasn't the only social-media activity about his golf wins; the Instagram account @trumpgolf shared a carousel of videos of the Republican playing the sport. Also included in the carousel was a photo of him holding the coveted trophy at one of his many golf courses.
"Congratulations to @realdonaldtrump on winning the Club Championship at @trumpgolfpalmbeach, his third win this year alone following the Senior and Super Senior Championships. Absolutely incredible!" the caption read.
While Trump has been celebrating his wins, people have taken to the comments of these posts to express their distrust of the former president.
"He owns the course...He won before the tournament started," one person wrote.
Another added: "Trump is not running for president. He's running for dict@tor, and the courts aren't going to save us. We must beat him badly at the ballot box! BLUE TSUNAMI."
However, others used the opportunity to show their support for the politician.
"I'm a democrat and I will be voting for Trump in 2024," a different Instagram user commented.
"Trump is a machine. With all of the campaigning and fighting against frivolous lawsuits, he still has the mental and physical strength to go out there and shoot great golf. This is what you want in a president. Not someone who calls a lid in the AM hours, falls off bikes, stages and stairs, and can hardly walk and talk," posted another.
"Biden would show up to play golf with a tennis racket," someone else added.
By the time of his election as United States president in 2016, the Republican owned 17 golf courses worldwide, including Trump Turnberry and Trump International Doral, the latter of which will host a LIV Golf event from April 5 to 7.
Amid his wins, Trump was in Ohio on Saturday for a campaign stop at the Buckeye Values PAC rally. He is facing mounting criticism for telling rallygoers that there will be a "bloodbath" if he loses to his Democratic rival President Joe Biden in November.
"Now if I don't get elected, it's going to be a bloodbath for the whole—that's gonna be the least of it," Trump said. "It's going to be a bloodbath for the country. That will be the least of it."
His comments quickly went viral and sparked a flurry of reactions on social media. While supporters of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) leader defended his "bloodbath" remarks and said they were taken out of context, critics accused Trump of inciting violence.
Steven Cheung, the Trump campaign's communications director, told Newsweek in an email that the former president meant "economically it will be a bloodbath because Crooked Joe Biden's policies have decimated working families."
