Today for the first time this year, I saw the tips of tulip leaves just about to poke through the melting snow. They pushed up through, and look more vigorous than they've looked in years. Wonderful snow!
I planted a whole bunch of different hostas under this tree. No ferns because sometimes it is a little too dry and hot. I look forward to abundant hosta proliferation this season.
Out on the bench sits my weird sculpture, Leopold Stickowsky.
I bet you know every inch of your garden, and it's prolly your yard. I can't recall ever meeting an unkind person who tended a garden.
What are your favorite plants to grow? I believe you live in upstate NY somewhere, and that puts you in USDA Zone 5. So am I, but our Zone 5 climates are very different. We can get very cold in winter, but deep cold seldom lasts more than a few days at most. That wrinkle and the aridity allowed me some freedom for "zone denial gardening."
But we can't ever approach your lush green of summer, or the prolific and profuse perfection your many perennials achieve. They, like eastern deciduous trees, struggle here because of the aridity and alkaline soils.
The ONE time Jesus needed a refuge of solitude and quiet in contemplation of things to come, He chose a garden; Gethsemane. Restorative powers of a garden can't be underestimated.
