I went for middle school band get-togethers. Thankfully haven’t been back since. Quattro's is the superior pizza. And 17th Street is great for BBQ. Also recommend Mary’s in Herrin. Best restaurant I’ve found in southern Illinois. Took my mom there for her eightieth birthday a couple of years ago. Was blown away by the quality of the menu.
SSB!

Restaurants: I like Quattros or Italian Village for pizza in Cdale. Murphysboro has 17th St BBQ. Other good restaurants in Cdale are Underground Barrel House, Midland Inn, Global Gourmet (upscale, may not be what you have in mind), Giant City State Park Lodge (Sunday family style fried chicken) Tres Hombres. Mary Lou’s is good diner/breakfast.
I don’t drink coffee, not helpful there.
Scenic drives I would recommend trying to drive through Alto Pass/Bald Knob. There are several wineries off IL 127. Driving down that way, driving from Makanda to Anna.
Makanda, Cobden, Murphy, Anna all have various levels of cute downtown. Carterville and Marion (Marion esp for antiquing) a little outside your path unless you’re driving down 57. Cape and Paducah have bigger downtown better than the smaller towns in IL. A lot more options in both, still quaint.
Happy to answer any follow ups.

We are spending a long weekend in the SNF area (southwest of Carbondale), looking for recommendations:
- Restaurants (we like just about everything, but bbq and pizza options would be helpful) - Coffee shops - Scenic drives - Places to go for a view (unfortunately our youngest just had a knee procedure so we have to be able to drive to it) - Any sort of “cute downtowns” or places for antiquing or other shopping - Anything we shouldn’t miss that isn’t listed above
Anywhere between and including Cape Girardeau and Carbondale/Murphysboro would be fine.
